On May 7, 2021, the Maine Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Promerica Health, and the City of Lewiston launched a mobile COVID-19 vaccination clinic in Lewiston. During the clinic’s first day it operated from noon to 5 p.m. and was expected to provide at least 50 doses of Moderna vaccine.

“This new clinic provides Androscoggin County with a convenient new option for getting a COVID-19 vaccination,” said Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention Director Nirav D. Shah. “COVID-19 vaccination is safe, effective, and free. It’s more important than ever that Maine people roll up their sleeves to help our state keep moving in the right direction. I urge anyone who wants a vaccine in Lewiston to book an appointment or drop by.”

The clinic will offer vaccines according to the following schedule:

  • May 10 – 9:00 am – 3:00 pm
  • May 11 – 1:00 pm – 7:00 pm
  • May 12 – 7:00 am – 1:00 pm
  • May 13 – 9:00 am – 3:00 pm
  • May 14 – 7:00 am – 12:00 pm

The clinic, located in the Oak Street municipal parking area, provides free vaccines to adults age 18 and older, both by appointment at VaccinateME.Maine.gov and on a drop-in basis.

“Promerica Health is proud to partner with Maine DHHS, the City of Lewiston and other community partners to begin this new mobile vaccination effort in western Maine,” said Promerica Health President/CEO Stephen M. Woods. “After over a decade executing mobile health campaigns across the country, we’ve seen the positive impact they can have – and it is particularly gratifying to provide assistance in our home state.”

The clinic has capacity to provide approximately 1,000 vaccinations during its time in Lewiston.

“This multi-shift clinic, for both appointment and drop-by vaccinations, should be particularly beneficial to shift workers from many of our local and regional businesses,” said Denis D’Auteuil, City Administrator, City of Lewiston. “Thank you to all who quickly collaborated to make this site a reality. This is yet another positive step forward in the fight against COVID-19.”

After concluding in Lewiston next week, the clinic will travel to additional sites in Androscoggin County and western Maine before looping back to provide second doses, starting again in Lewiston. DHHS and Promerica are working with community partners and area employers to finalize those additional sites, which will offer accessible, efficient vaccination opportunities throughout the region.
