Federal COVID-19 ambulance teams coming to eight Maine hospitals

Hospitals to host ambulances and emergency medical crews that will match patients with open beds at facilities throughout Maine Augusta, MAINE – Governor Janet Mills announced today that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has approved Maine’s request for Federal Ambulance Teams on behalf of eight Maine hospitals. The Federal teams will assist Maine emergency medical services (EMS) crews with non-emergency transportation of patients among facilities to match patients with open beds and ensure they are treated in the facility that best meets their health care needs. $13.5 Million awarded for projects supporting sustainable offshore wind development

October 14, 2021 The US Department of Energy (DOE) is funding four projects with USD 13.5 million to obtain critical environmental and wildlife data to support offshore wind development. The projects will inform offshore wind siting and permitting, and help protect wildlife and fisheries as offshore wind deployment increases under the country’s target of installing 30 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030. Maine CDC urges precautions against ticks during outdoor activities this fall

10/15/2021  AUGUSTA— The Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Maine CDC)urges residents and visitors to take precautions against disease-carrying deer ticks this fall. Maine experiences a second peak in adult deer tick activity in late September through November. Deer ticks are commonly found in wooded, leafy, and shrubby areas. This may include areas around the yard. Deer ticks can carry the germs that cause diseases such as Lyme disease, anaplasmosis, and babesiosis. These germs spread through the bite of an infected deer tick. As of October 12, 2021, Maine CDC recorded 1,054 cases of Lyme disease, 559 cases of anaplasmosis, 163 cases of babesiosis, and 3 cases of Powassan encephalitis this year. Maine announces availability of grants to support coworking and collaborative workspaces  

October 4, 2021 The Mills Administration announced guidelines for a competitive grant program to create more coworking and collaborative workspaces to support entrepreneurship in Maine.   The grants will be awarded through the Maine Coworking Development Fund and Program, which was established by the Maine Legislature in 2015 but was not funded until 2019 when Governor Mills, with support from then-Assistant Majority Leader Ryan Fecteau, recognized that coworking is a promising element of entrepreneurship support and recapitalized the Fund with $200,000 in her first and most recent biennial budgets.   “We knew before the pandemic that Maine, with all its strengths, was well-positioned to welcome more remote workers.
