Veterans to hold energy & national security town hall meeting

Saturday, June 12, 2010, top retired military leaders and veterans, along with local elected officials, will host a Town Hall meeting to discuss the connection between climate change and national security, and call for passage of comprehensive climate and energy legislation. They will encourage Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) and Senator Olympia Snowe (R-ME) to stop funding terrorism and defend America by supporting the American Power Act.  The veterans will also underscore previous efforts by both Senators to secure America with clean energy.

Operation Free is holding a town hall meeting on June 12th at 11:30am in Portland with the Truman National Security Project (www.operationfree.net) to better inform the public about how climate change is a threat to our national security. We will be joined by Major General Don Edwards and Adam Cote, Iraq War Veteran and other veterans including two from Iraq and Afghanistan.

Veterans convene in Washington D.C. to fight the threat to national security climate change poses

On September 10, 2009 over 150 veterans, mostly from the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars, traveled from all corners of the country to Washington, DC. There they trained and took action on a new mission: Operation FREE.

These veterans, of all ages, joined forces to speak out against U.S. dependence on fossil fuels. Their call for action focused on the national security threat that this dependency creates as it continues to contribute to global warming.
