When there is power equal to 149 nuclear power plants off our shores in wind energy, it is worth the investment. That is why companies are ready to put money into off shore wind energy here in Maine. These are business people that know once they tap into enough off shore wind-- electric prices will go down. Plus exporting the electricity will be profitable. The state is working regionally to make this happen. Maine could feed the excess power to the Boston market.

Europe has already proved investing in wind energy brings down electric costs. Germany didn't suffer as much because of the Great Recession because they invested in manufacturing technologies for wind power- and other alternative energies. Maine has the most wind energy of all NE states -- it's logic.

Building the turbines here in Maine- with Maine technologies- and Maine companies is great for our economy. The turbines and floating platforms could be manufactured here and sold around the world.

Natural gas and biomass will continue to be a part of Maine's energy supply but its not the entire answer. Many people in Maine don't want more Hydro because it hurts the states quality of life by disrupting the environment.

Maine is poised to grow economically becasue of this clean energy economy. Please check out: • Exclusive interview with Governor John Baldacci on how energy independence from fossil fuels is possible – by working regionally at www.maineinsights.com

does Dr. Dagher honestly believe that off shore wind power can compete with land based hydro as well as The combined cycle gas fired plants and biomass plants that already exist?? Why is maine tearing down its existing hydro plants that produce power at 3-4 cents a kilowatt hr?? The cost of building just one turbine 20 miles offshore on a floating platforms and bringing it onshore as well as maintenance costs must be astronomical?? This can't be feasible. Am I missing something? I've talked to countless people who work in power generation and all say this isn't feasible...... what gives??
