Yesterday, the Southern Maine Labor Council endorsed a “Yes” vote on November’s ballot question, which would allow marriage licenses for same-sex couples and protect religious freedom. The Southern Maine Labor Council is a coalition of labor members and leaders, led by the AFL-CIO of Maine.
“Same-sex couples are working alongside us all over the state. These couples deserve the protections and responsibilities that only come with marriage,” said SMLC President, Alan Ray Churchill. “It’s an endorsement we were proud to make.”
“We’re very grateful for this endorsement. It’s the latest example of the broad support for allowing marriage licenses for all loving, committed couples in Maine,” said Matt McTighe, Campaign Manager for Mainers United for Marriage.
Mainers United for Marriage is the coalition to win marriage for all Maine families. A “Yes” vote in November will allow marriage licenses for loving, committed same-sex couples in Maine while also protecting religious freedom.
