The $2 billion Riverbank Wiscasset Energy Center proposal received vocal community support during a federal hearing in July.
The proposed project on former Maine Yankee land near the decommissioned nuclear power plant promises to deliver 1,000 megawatts of electricity using pollution-free technology, and boost the local economy.
A 4- to 5-year construction period would employ some 4,000 people. The company has already hired the Brunswick Stantec consulting firm to prepare for development of the underground water-pumped generation facility, according to president John Douglas.
The operation would expand the town’s tax base, besides being the largest project of its kind on the Eastern seaboard.
