Today The State of Maine, a blog written by an anonymous author, revealed that Leif Parsell, a so-called “reporter” hired by the right-leaning Maine Heritage Policy Center (MHPC) to cover the statehouse for their conservative newswire, has made online statements supporting white supremacist views on the website policymic.com.[1]

The blog’s revelations barely scratch the surface, however. Google searches for Leif Parsell’s name and email bring up a long history of inappropriate statements, often devolving into outright racism.

A Facebook group that Parsell runs [2] even goes so far as to call for a dictator to take power in order to protect “America, and the rest of Western Civilization” from “decline” due to ethnic diversity.

“Europeans and European Americans must unite in an effort to survive falling birthrates, heavy immigration and a tide of multiculturalism which seeks to end political and cultural diversity,” reads the group’s description.

Writing on the group’s wall, Parsell declares: “At this point, its not about dominance and I don’t care about imperialism or any of that. Its about survival as a culture and a society. Lindburgh was very right, in the end its not the what (money, political power, ect) that matters, its the WHO. I’d rather have a country that had fallen behind India or China, then one that sold its soul to non-European immigrants and lost its culture, just to keep its GDP rising. [sic]”

Parsell has littered the internet with similar statements, including on the MHPC Facebook page where he responds to a post on Maine’s population shrinking and aging with the sentiment “Better than diversifying.” [3]

“It’s to be expected that a so-called ‘reporter’ for the Maine Heritage Policy Center would have an ideological slant, but Mr. Parsell’s statements and views are outright disturbing and go far beyond what should be acceptable,” said Maine People’s Alliance Political Engagement Director Ben Chin. “This is the latest in a series of events that have damaged the credibility of the Maine Heritage Policy Center and these most recent revelations make it crystal clear that the Center’s shoddy research and biased journalism cannot be taken seriously.”
