Beginning this Friday, there are three opportunities for Maine citizens to provide input to Maine’s Energy Efficiency plan , which sets the stage for future investments that are critical to reducing global warming pollution and energy costs, increasing Maine’s energy independence, and creating green jobs. Energy efficiency is the largest and most affordable energy resource that we have in Maine, and it is still largely untapped.
Last session, the Maine Legislature passed a law that will significantly advance Maine’s energy efficiency. The legislation formed the Efficiency Maine Trust to organize the State’s numerous energy-related programs together under one roof, and to design, coordinate, and integrate energy efficiency, weatherization, and clean energy programs for all energy users in Maine.
The Trust’s Board is holding public meetings as part of its effort to develop a three-year plan that will spell out program design, planning, and implementation strategies for all energy efficiency and renewable energy resources, for all fuels, and across all customer classes. This is a specific plan to help Maine residents and businesses tap Maine’s cost-effective energy efficiency potential, save millions of dollars, reduce global warming pollution, and create jobs for Maine people.
