Federal $4 million grant to help Maine’s information technology industry workforce

The federal government has granted $4 million to Coastal Counties Workforce Inc. in Brunswick to recruit and train Maine residents in the information technology industry. The money is part of $150 million that the U.S. Department of Labor is using for its “TechHire” grant program around the country.

The labor department said the grant will help to provide training and placement to young and underserved workers who want to get involved in Maine’s information technology sector. The training will also provide industry-recognized credentialing for participants. It will help Maine ramp up its IT workforce.

According to Congresswoman Chellie Pingree the Coastal Counties pact is one of 39 such partnerships in the country.
